Catch latest updates on Kushinagar bus accident An early-morning accident in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar on Thursday saw at least 11 school students being killed as the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a passenger train at an unmanned crossing. All the victims were students of the town's Divine Public School. The surviving students who suffered injuries were immediately shifted to the nearby hospital for further treatment. A total of 18 school students were travelling in the vehicle involved in the  Kushinagar accident . Anand Kumar, ADG (Law and Order), told news agencies that many of the other seven were critically injured, adding that the death toll could go up. The court also clubbed the trial in the matter pending against the leaders and 'karsevaks' and said the proceedings should be completed in two years. "We have allowed the CBI appeal against the Allahabad High Court judgement with certain directions," a bench comprising Justices P C Ghose and R F Nariman said. The apex court, however, noted that Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh enjoys Constitutional immunity and can be tried only after he ceases to hold the office. UP to float Farmers' Relief Bond for composite waiver amount; decision to benefit 21.5 mn farmers Within a fortnight of taking office, the  Yogi Adityanath -led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh (UP) on Tuesday fulfilled its key poll promise, writing off crop loans of up to Rs 1 lakh for about 21.5 million small and marginal farmers. The total waiver will be of Rs 36,359 crore — one of the highest-ever promised by a state. Of this, Rs 5,630 crore of NPAs, or non-performing assets, of 700,000 farmers will be immediately waived. This would not only enable these farmers to seek new loans, but also clean up the account books of the banks involved. According to the official data, there are 23 million farmers in UP, of whom about 92.5 per cent, or about 21.5 million, belong to the small and marginal segments. "We have decided to intensify our strike from tomorrow. All shops will remain closed. Fish sellers too have joined us and are extending support to us," Lucknow Bakra Gosht Vypar Mandal office bearer Mubeen Qureshi had said on Sunday. He said, in the wake of the crackdown, there was no question of the strike being called off anytime soon. "It will go on indefinitely," he added. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister  Yogi Adityanath  on Wednesday banned chewing of 'paan' (beetal leaves), and consumption of tobacco and its products in all state government offices, hospitals and educational institutions and directed for ban on use of polythene. The Chief Minister also allocated portfolios to his ministerial colleagues, keeping several key departments like home, revenue, mining and jails with him. Adiyanath inspected the Shastri Bhavan (annexe) here during his first full working day here after taking oath as the Chief Minister on Sunday.
