Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief  Lalu Prasad Yadav  on Thursday surrendered in a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here to serve his sentence in a fodder scam case. Lalu Prasad surrendered before Justice S.S. Prasad, who sent him to the Birsa Munda Central Jail. From jail he could later be shifted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for treatment, the judge said. The Jharkhand High Court on August 24 had directed him to surrender by August 30. He was out on provisional bail since May 11. The RJD chief arrived here in Jharkhand late on Wednesday to surrender in the court. Nayyar died at around 12.30 am at a private hospital, his elder son Sudhir Nayar said. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Nayar started his career as an Urdu press reporter. He was editor of Delhi edition of English newspaper The Statesman. Nayar had served as High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom (UK). The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had written to telecommunications service providers (TSPs) and internet service providers (ISPs) on July 18, seeking inputs about options for blocking mobile applications, especially when national security and public order are under threat. A mob of around 3,000 to 5,000 people vandalised BJP MLA Rushikesh Patel's office. In all, 17 people, including Hardik Patel, were charged with arson, rioting, and criminal conspiracy.
